Watercolor and Using Your Washes
In this video we will look at the washes we have created and figure out what we are going to do with them. Many times I will create washes and then put them away. The creativity is the part of watercolor that I love. A time will come when I will need something beautiful to display a quote that means a lot to me. Sometimes I need a lovely backdrop to a picture I have in mind. I have learned to never throw away a painting I did not like.
Supplies:
- Daniel Smith Watercolors
- A watercolor wash you really like
- Arches 140# watercolor paper. Canson 140# watercolor paper and Strathmore 140# watercolor paper will also work with this lesson
- Salt (table salt, rock salt, salt flakes)
- Alcohol, Tequila even works if you cannot find alcohol in these Covid times
- Plastic wrap
- Old toothbrushes (do not use these to brush your teeth after you have painted with them)
- Paper towel
- Clean water (if you have a water softener it will affect the watercolors)
- A simple quote that means something to you
I used 1 of the washes to write “He Is Risen”. First I need to practice my lettering. This is the first time I realized that lettering is a skill I needed to refine. Since this video I found the Loveleigh Loops Community and deeply appreciate all of their resources.
